Loveland
March 14, 2003
The firemen and women of Loveland and Berthoud were the recipients of this year's Gift of Caring, Honoring Our Heroes. Girl Scout Troop 318 led by Nita Starr and Deb Gibbs presented over 300 boxes of delicious Girl Scout cookies to the fire fighters of Loveland and Berthoud.
Fire Chief Mark Miller was on hand to accept the gift from the community.
Residents and businesses in Loveland as part of this year's Girl Scout cookie sales drive in January and February donated the cookies. The outpouring of support of people to show local firefighters that the citizens of Loveland really do appreciate their efforts was outstanding.
After a brief ceremony at Fire Station #1 the troop divided the cookies equally and delivered to four fire stations in Loveland and two in Berthoud.
After the presentation, the girls went on a tour of the station.
The remainder of the evening was spent ringing the doorbells at the other fire stations in Loveland. The two Berthoud stations received their cookies on Saturday morning at their weekly meeting.
Last year the Gift of Caring recipients were the troops serving in Afghanistan. The girls collected over 600 boxes of cookies from the community and delivered them to the Wyoming Air National Guard. The cookies were then transported to our troops.
The girls of troop 318 received a royal tour of the base including sitting in the cockpit of a C130 and demonstrations of how jet engines work.
